Emily Jarrett, Journal Staff
A Lee’s Summit man will face an escape from confinement charge after an attempted escape from Brice Detention guards, according to the Lee’s Summit Police Department.
According to reports, James M. Fannin, 21, was arrested by Lee’s Summit Police officers on Nov. 21, on municipal charges of stealing, receiving stolen property and another agency’s warrant. He was transferred to Brice Detention Facility, located in Holden. Guards from the facility brought Fannin to Saint Luke’s East – Lee’s Summit for an unknown medical reason around 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22.
At approximately 7:35 p.m., Fannin allegedly escaped from the guards and ran out of the hospital and headed south. Reports indicate he then circled around the back of the hospital and ran east, while still wearing his orange jumpsuit and chain around his waist which secured his wrists in handcuffs.
According to the LSPD, Fannin was found at 10:50 p.m. east of the hospital.
Officers are still unsure how he escaped from custody.
