The Lee’s Summit Chamber hosted the second StartFEST at the University of Central Missouri Summit Center May 15. The event showcased nine entrepreneurs, who made pitches to more than 100 attendees. Michael Blau Agency provided barbecue lunch for the entire staff of Prairie View Elementary School for Teacher Appreciation Day. Michael Blau, a Farmers Insurance agent, presented Donna Mathews with a $500 check on May 7 for the 2013 Snowman Mix project at Prairie View Elementary School, which she leads each year. This fundraiser provides Christmas gifts for Lee’s Summit students in need and is an excellent learning tool for the third graders as they are introduced to basic economics. The students learn the value of compassion in a positive way that builds community spirit while having fun.
Keeping businesses in Lee’s Summit is a major focal point for the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council and according to a presentation by the organization, business retention in the city is on the upswing compared to just a few years ago.
