With a turn of the body, a burst of speed and a well-placed shot, senior Jaycie Johnson sent Lee’s Summit West to the state quarterfinals less than three minutes into overtime May 21 in a 3-2 win over Blue Springs.
It’s been three years since the Lee’s Summit North girls lacrosse team was born, and this was the year the program took its first big steps. North, still a club team, has seen a rapid rise of success that teams in other sports can only salivate over.
Blue Springs went into the Class 3, District 14 championship game against Lee’s Summit North having lost to the Broncos twice already in the season.
Three Lee’s Summit West tennis players will advance to the Class 2 individual state tournament slated for May 24-25 at Cooper Tennis Complex, Springfield.
With two goals, senior Jaycie Johnson led Lee’s Summit West back to a district championship May 16 over Lee’s Summit 2-0 in Belton.
The Lee’s Summit West boys’ track and field team placed second out of 21 teams in the Class 4, Sectional 4 meet held May 18 at Blue Springs.
Lee’s Summit West is seeded No. 1 in the Class 3, District 13 tournament. And the Titans proved it with an 11-1 victory over No. 4 seeded Belton May 14 at Belton.
Lee’s Summit had a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime of the Class 3, District 13 semifinal game against Raymore-Peculiar May 14 at Belton.
Lee’s Summit West held off the Rockhurst offense for a couple of innings, but some defensive miscues started the Titan’s downfall May 14 at KCMO 3&2 Stadium as the Hawklets won the Class 5, District 13 title game 11-1.
O’Hara’s offensive pressure proved to be too much for Summit Christian Academy in the Class 1, District 13 championship game May 15 at O’Hara.
