A Lee’s Summit man was killed in a car crash at 10:50 a.m. Sunday after hitting a ditch and a fence, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The patrol said Jonathan T. Ferris, 26, a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy coroner, reports indicate. The driver, Christofer M. Ferris, 24, was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center by LifeFlight with serious injuries.

According to reports, Jonathan T. Ferris was southbound on M-131, a mile north of Route FF in Lafayette County, when he crested a small hill, which was also a left-hand curve. The vehicle began rotating counter clockwise and drove off the east side of the road, hit a ditch and fence and began cartwheeling, the patrol said. The car came to rest on its wheels.

Reports indicate both Jonathan T. Ferris and Christofer M. Ferris were wearing seatbelts at the time, though an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
