Charles Evan Jewell

Charles Evan Jewell, 63, Kansas City, died Jan. 26, 2010 at his home.

Evan was born June 29, 1946 in Garden City, Kan. He was a 1964 graduate of Lee’s Summit High School. He then joined the U.S. Marines and was the crew chief of the presidential helicopter/HMX1. He was very active in little league baseball and the Boy Scouts.

He worked for the Bank of Lee’s Summit and later moved to St. Louis and continued his banking career.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mason Jewell; and stepfather Haley W. Shobe.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Shobe, Lee’s Summit; daughter, Jennifer Vehige, Lee’s Summit; son, Christopher Jewell, Alexandria, Va.; brothers, Max and Kent Jewell, sister, Bonnie Hensley; stepbrother, John Shobe; stepsister, Jan Hambright; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Vehige and William James Vehige. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m., Jan. 28 at the Langsford Funeral Home. Cremation and burial at the Lee’s Summit Cemetery at a later date.
