Harold Arthur Morlock
Harold Arthur Morlock, 89, Lee’s Summit died Jan. 23, 2010.
Born March 12, 1920 to Ruth and Harold Morlock in Chicago, Ill. Harold Jr., “Hal,” attended elementary grades in Orland Park, Ill. and high school at Lindblom High School in Chicago.
Hal attended the University of Illinois graduating in 1942 with a degree in journalism. He enlisted in the Navy and received basic training at Great Lake Naval Air Station and flight training in Iowa. Hal was a carrier based fighter pilot stationed on the U.S.S. Cowpens and flew the F-4 Hellcats in the South Pacific. He retired from the Navy in 1980 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander after serving in World War II and the Korean War. Decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross and seven Air Medals.
After the war, he worked for the State Department and Foreign Service in both Nepal and Pakistan where he started the Lahore American Society School for children of all grades and a principal he hired from the United States.
During his career, he was employed by Montgomery Ward, started a flight school in Montana, worked at the Pentagon, twice, received a Masters degree in education and taught journalism at Carl Sandburg High School for 18 years where he received a perfect attendance award.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brother David; sister; Muriel, Mary Morlock and Lucille Morlock. He is survived by his wife Joie; brother Jay; daughters Sherrie Morlock Parsons and Kristen Stuva (Marc); sons Ashley and Tom (Debbie) Morlock, Timothy (Becky) Ricketts and Thomas Kerr; sisters-in-law Kitty Morlock and Mildred Townsend; as well as numerous nieces, nephews; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
His love for photography, journalism and golf, as well as his warm and generous personality will be remembered by everyone who has crossed his path.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Jan. 30 at the Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church, Second and Douglas Streets.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the John Knox Foundation for the hospice program, 400 N.W. Murray Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO 64081 or Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation, 301 N.E. Tudor, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086, for the ROTC program.
