Kathryn M. Palmer
Kathryn M. Plamer, 89, died in her home Jan. 29, 2010.
She was born to Emil J. and Martha A. Pfeiffer on Aug. 6, 1920 in Sedalia and was the eldest of six daughters. Her love of children included working at Pitcher Fairview Junior High and Nowlin Junior High from which she retired June 11, 1982 after 30 years of service.
Kathryn spent a portoin of her retirement years traveling most of the 50 states with her husband and their dog, Dan, and she dearly enjoyed auctions and garage sales and the many treasures she collected. She was very active in the St. Joseph Guild at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church. She was very active in the PTA and a lifetime member. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Kansas City, the American Red Cross and the Kansas City Election Board and volunteered for many years at the Lee’s Summit Social Services.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jack Palmer. Both lived in the area most of their lives. She was greatly loved by her family and many friends and it was said that “she never met a stranger.”
Kathryn was immensely proud of her family which included three sons, John (Janet) Palmer, Greenwood, Mike (Sandy) Palmer, Bucyrus, Kan., Richard (Sheila) Palmer, Lee’s Summit; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and was looking forward to the birth of number 14 in July. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were Feb. 2 at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church with burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery.
