Two Raytown men have been charged in connection with an attempted break-in Feb. 2 at a home on N.E. Whitestone Drive.

Jeffrey S. Lamping and John D. Haun, both 22, are charged with first-degree burglary and fleeing and resisting arrest, according to the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

According to police, they are both in the Jackson County Detention Center with bond set at $60,000.

According to police reports, police received a 9-1-1 call at 11:50 a.m. Feb. 2, from a resident reporting an intruder in the 1600 block of N.E. Whitestone.

The caller reported hearing the door bell ring several times followed by pounding on a back door. As she went to investigate, she told police she was confronted by an unknown white male inside her home.

Once the intruder realized someone was home, he ran from the residence to a waiting vehicle occupied by another unknown white male. With very clear and precise descriptions of the intruder and vehicle, the resident was able to assist police with an immediate broadcast to police units on the road.

As the burglary information was being broadcast, a detective traveling east on N.E. Colbern Road saw the reported vehicle occupied by two white males traveling west on Colbern.

As the detective turned around, the vehicle accelerated and turned north onto Interstate-470.

According to police reports, the detective’s vehicle was unmarked and not equipped as an emergency vehicle, without lights or siren, so he continued following at a safe distance to provide a visual for responding patrol cars.

The first patrol unit was a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy who attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle continued to flee and the deputy pursued.

The pursuit continued to the area of Bowlin Road, just south of U.S. 40 Highway, where the vehicle stopped and both white male subjects fled on foot.

Both were apprehended a short time later without further incident.
