Three teens arrested for thefts
A Lee’s Summit teenager and two Pleasant Hill teenagers were arrested by Greenwood police officers yesterday for multiple thefts from vehicles.
According to reports, the Greenwood Police Department has received several reports during the past few days about thefts or attempted thefts of items in unlocked vehicles. All of the thefts happened on the east side of Allendale Lake Road, between Raven and Spruce drives.
Around 12:30 a.m., July 28, the Greenwood Police Department received information about two suspicious vehicles in the area of Spruce Drive.
The suspects, 18-year-old Lee’s Summit resident Chad Claycomb, and two 16-year-old Pleasant Hill residents, were seen walking up to vehicles and checking to see if they were unlocked.
The suspects were taken into custody for curfew violations, trespassing and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles by allowing them to be out past curfew.
Claycomb allegedly admitted he and the two juveniles had been stealing items from unlocked vehicles because, “Greenwood was the easiest place to steal things because people who live (there) are stupid and leave expensive things lying out in unlocked cars.”
The suspect also said he stole the items because he needed money for his family,” reports indicate.
Claycomb then agreed to show officers where they had hidden the stolen items and led them to a wooded area the backyard of a home located in the 800 block of Spruce Drive. Two backpacks filled with stolen items were recovered.
The two juvenile suspects also allegedly admitted their part in stealing from the vehicles and were charged. Claycomb was charged with stealing in municipal court. According to the Greenwood Police Department, possible state charges are pending.
