Hardin named new Ward 2 alderwoman

On Tuesday, the Greenwood Board of Aldermen approved mayoral appointee Sarah Hardin to fill the vacant Ward 2 position on the Board.
The position was left open a few weeks ago when Chris Seagraves resigned due to family issues.
Mayor Marvin Megee said he appointed Hardin for various reasons.
Sarah is a professional, Megee said. I feel like her temperament will be a real asset for some of the challenges we face during our decision-making process.
Hardin, an accountant and a mother of a 4-year-old, lives off of Allendale Lake Road with her husband and son.
She said she has never had any real interest in being involved with politics. But after meeting with Megee about some neighborhood issues, Megee approached her about the possibility of fulfilling the Ward 2 vacancy. As soon as he asked, I knew right then it was something I wanted to do, Hardin said.
As a newcomer to politics, Hardin said she doesnt have any specific goals in mind to accomplish as a board member, but she will always be looking for ways to improve her community. I want to be involved and have a chance to improve things, she said.
Megee said that although Hardin is young, hes excited to have her on the board to represent that facet of Greenwood residents.
We have a lot of residents who are in the 28 to 38 age range, Megee said. At some point we will be turning the city over to their leadership.
Hardins term will be up in April.
She said at this point she intends to run again for a chance to serve a full term.
