Patsy Faye Swartz, 81, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Independence, died Dec. 10, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family.

Patsy was born Jan. 7, 1930, in California. Her family moved to Independence and she graduated from William Chrisman High School before attending Kansas State University where she studied music. She and her husband, Alfred, were married in 1949 and were together for 59 years. Patsy and her husband shared a love of animals, nature, travel and music. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines. She and her husband opened a family bakery in Independence in 1987 which was enjoyed by family, friends and the community for 11 years.

Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred E. Swartz Jr., in 2007; son-in-law, John Tweedie, in 2009; and great-grandson, Jakobe Caldron, in 2003.

She is survived by daughters, Terre Tweedie, Debbie Wilson and husband, Gerald; son, Johnny Swartz; daughters, Judy Douglas and husband, Scott, all of Independence; Nancy Swaney and husband, Mark, Lee’s Summit; son, Danny Swartz and wife, Carrie, Cummings, Kan.; brother, James Worrel, Oak Grove; sister, Joyce Richardson, Blue Springs; brother, Jerry Worrel and wife, Donna Sue, Oak Grove; sisters, Doria Curtin and husband, Jimmy; Jana Paris and husband, Myron, all of Independence; brother, Joe Worrel and wife, Barbara, Okla.; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m., Dec. 15, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Cremation.

The family suggests charitable contributions to the Salvation Army, 14700 E. Truman Rd., Independence, MO 64050; People for Animal Welfare Society, 10609 E. 25th Terrace, Independence, MO 64052; or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Cancer Research, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
