Evalyn L. Cundiff
Evalyn L. Anderson Cundiff, 98, a former resident of Spring Hill, Kan., Belton, and John Knox Village, Lees Summit, is again dancing the waltz with her loving husband of 72 years, Floyd, in their eternal home. She passed peacefully from this life Dec. 14, 2011, at Wilshire at Lakewood, where she resided the past eight months.
Evalyn was born Aug. 23, 1913, in Haddam, Kan., one of five children of Archie and Hazel (Hackett) Anderson. She grew up in Haddam, where she graduated from high school. After receiving her teachers certificate, she began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Haddam. Evalyn was united in marriage to Floyd W. Cundiff June 25, 1935. They moved to the Kansas City area in 1941, when Floyd joined the Railway Mail Service. They later moved to Lenexa, Kan., Spring Hill, Belton and finally to John Knox Village, Lees Summit, in 2001. Evalyn worked for Hallmark Cards for 13 years. She was a lifelong Methodist, a longtime member of Agnes Avenue Methodist Church and most recently was a member of the Lees Summit United Methodist Church. Following Floyds retirement, the couple enjoyed travels throughout the United States and abroad. They spent winters in Yuma, Ariz., for 20 years, and enjoyed ballroom dancing several nights each week.
Along with her parents, Evalyn was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; brother, Keith Anderson; and sisters, Ethel Laxton, Pauline Drips and Ilene Clifton.
Survivors include her son, and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Anadale Cundiff, Lees Summit; daughter, Patti Browder, Lees Summit; six grandchildren, Debbie Harp and husband, Mike, Jim Cundiff and wife, Wendy, Dan Cundiff and wife, Lisa, Jon Cundiff and wife, Vicky, Randy Salle and wife, Gloria, and Robin Kulscar and husband, James; 12 great-grandchildren, Sarah Smith and husband, Josh, Ryan Harp and wife, Ashley, Madison Cundiff, Natalie Cundiff, A.J. Cundiff, Kelsey Ryan and husband, Bryan, Sean Cundiff, Cameron Cundiff, Brandon Cundiff, Randy Salle, Darren Houser and wife, Lindsay, and Chris Dunham; and great-great grandchildren, Beau, Kane, Aria, a fourth great-great grandchild on the way; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by services at 11:00 a.m., Dec. 20, at the Lees Summit United Methodist Church, Second and Douglas streets.
A graveside committal service for the family will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, you may honor Evalyn with a memorial contribution to the church.
