Echoes
Weekly poetry from Hubert Neth
By Hubert Neth, guest columinst
where do
old gods
go
when
believed in
no more
must be
thousands
of them
funds contributed
for their support
borrowed
to finance
new gods
soon stunned
by how quickly
they pass
from reverence
to antique store
tourism
then
archeological
curiosity
finding comfort
in the fellowship
of abandonment
they await
temporary
employment
when times
become too
wet dry
hot cold
out of
control
war
plague
famine
and they can
count on
relationship
issues
breakups
commitments
to bless
friendships
forged
betrayed
business deals
in the making
there are always
illnesses
hopes for
mercy
justice
we pray
because
we are
creatures
long ago
it was believed
the world rests
on the back
of turtles
in our
digital age
we understand
it is one
and zero
and one
and zero
and one
all the way
down
i baptized
a corpse
for the sake
of his wife
although
it isnt our
policy
maybe
only those
go to heaven
who are willing
to go to hell
if that leaves
room
for someone
else
