Sharon Kay Wehmhoener, 61, Bates City, died unexpectedly Jan. 5, 2012.

Sharon was born Dec. 22, 1950, in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School. She earned her bachelors degree at Missouri State University and her masters in education from Webster University. She taught elementary school in the Lee’s Summit School District for 23 years and retired in 2006. She was a member of the MSTA and the Friends of Powell Gardens. She was always a teacher and was dedicated to the consideration of others. She was very family oriented and cared for her mother in the last months of her life. She loved home decorating, playing board games and enjoyed a dry sense of humor.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Loretta Duncan.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Paul Wehmhoener, of the home; son, Jason Wehmhoener, Santa Cruz, Calif.; brothers, Victor Duncan, Dixon, Jim Duncan and his wife, Pamela, St. James; sister, Janet Lawyer and her husband, Larry, Joplin; brother, Richard Duncan and his wife, Susan, Lebanon; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m., Jan. 11, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Internment will be in Floral Hills Cemetery.

The family requests contributions to the American Heart Association, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, MO 64015-1375.
