MCC-Longview plans MLK Day of Service
Metropolitan Community College-Longview students and employees are carrying on a tradition by participating in MCCs Third Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
MLK Day of Service is a day for students and employees to come together to give back to the community. Lees Summit community members 14 and older are also invited to attend.
Like Dr. King, MCC is dedicated to serving and enriching the community in which we live, MCC-Longview president Fred Grogan said.
Each MCC campus will be hosting a number of community service projects that participants can choose from as a special way to celebrate the day with friends.
At MCC-Longview, volunteers will be heading to and working with the Raytown Emergency Assistance Program, Harvesters, Crittenton and Langsford Boys Home. Volunteers will also be on campus creating quilts and blankets that will be donated.
Interested parties can go to the MLK Day website, www.mcckc.edu/mlk, and click the red volunteer button on the right hand side of the page to learn more about each location and how you can help.
Longviews MLK Day of Service will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Education Center/Business Building, where participants can turn in paperwork, finalize service project assignments, get their MLK Day of Service T-shirts and enjoy a complimentary morning snack.
An opening program will begin at 8:30 am before everyone leaves for his or her designated projects. Transportation will not be provided.
For more information about this event, parties are asked to contact the Campus Life & Leadership Office at 816-604-2130.
