The Titans continued their undefeated streak with a 73-25 bout over O’Hara in the first round of the Culver’s Classic Jan. 16 at Lee’s Summit High School.

No. 1 seeded Lee’s Summit West High School had a 37-10 lead over No. 8 seeded O’Hara at halftime, but lept to a 63-15 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

“We played with effort and anytime we play with effort, we are pretty good,” Lee’s Summit West head coach Michael Scheiber said. “That was the biggest thing we stressed coming into the game, was putting forth the championship effort and they did that tonight.”

The Titans were led in scoring by Shaquille Harrison with 24 points. Austin Panko and Deron Session both added 11 points and Nathan Jackson netted eight points. Kyndall Powell had five points and Thomas Ganadan and Dale Brown added four points each. Monte Harrison, Austin Burau and Trevor Gregory netted two points apiece.

With the victory, the Titans, now 14-0, will take on No. 4 seeded Raytown South in the semifinals at 8:30 p.m. tonight.

“There are a lot of great teams in this tournament,” Scheiber said. “We are happy we got out of the first round and have the chance to participate and get on the winner’s side of the bracket.”

Even though Lee’s Summit West showed its athleticism and almost flawless teamwork, Scheiber said the team is far from perfect.

“There’s always those things,” he said. “...We are never going to get perfect, but we just want to push ourselves as hard as we can to get as good as we can by the end of the year. That’s our goal.”
