Senior citizens to tour Greenwood Elementary
Area senior citizens are invited to participate in the Lees Summit R-7 School Districts spring communitywide Senior Citizens School Tour, scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 21 at Greenwood Elementary.
Those interested also will be invited to briefly tour the R-7 Aquatic Center after the elementary school tours ends.
The districts tour program received first place in the American School Board Journals Magna Awards program in 2010. The school tour is free for all interested senior citizens, although reservations are required. Space is limited, so it is recommended that reservations be made early. The deadline to sign up for the tour is Feb. 22.
The event includes a tour of Greenwood School, a cafeteria lunch, classroom visits and a student performance. The tour will start and end at the school, 805 W. Main in Greenwood.
Those attending are asked to arrive at the school a few minutes before 10:30 a.m. Participants must have the ability to do some walking within the school and are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. Several rest breaks will be provided.
Following the school tours conclusion at 12:30 p.m., senior citizens will be invited to drive a short distance to the R-7 Aquatic Center for an approximately 20-minute tour of this facility, located at 3498 SW Windemere Drive.
Greenwood Elementary is a historic building within the R-7 School District and was one of several schools already in existence when the district reorganized in 1949. The original building was constructed as a high school and grammar school, opening in 1910.
The tour for senior citizens is part of the R-7 School Districts Comprehensive School Improvement Plan and was recommended by a community team. To make a reservation or for more information, please contact the R-7 School District Communications Department at 986-1014 or email janie.rohlfing@leesummit.k12.mo.us by Feb. 22.
