LS volunteers to plant 50 trees in Joplin
A six-week fund drive to purchase trees for a park in Joplin ends this week and leaders believe more than 50 flowering trees will be donated by individuals in Lee’s Summit.
Special collections at Lee’s Summit Christian Church and First Presbyterian Church were especially helpful in raising enough funds to make a real difference for Joplin’s Campbell Parkway, which was nearly stripped of all vegetation by the May, 2011 tornado.
Members of the Lee’s Summit Beautification Commission will be joined by other members of the community this Saturday, October 6th, as they plant the trees in the park. Working with Joplin’s reforestation specialist and other volunteers the Lee’s Summit group will plant, mulch and water the 15-gallon dogwood, yellow wood, and fringe trees that will soon make Campbell Parkway a beautiful place to be enjoyed for generations to come.
