Shooting suspect in custody
Man injured in shooting
By Toriano Porter
The suspect in a shooting Sunday afternoon in Lee’s Summit is now in custody after a four-and-a-half standoff with police.
Lee’s Summit Police Sgt Chris Depue said the suspect surrendered without incident around 8:30 p.m. after police negotiated with the man after he barricaded himself in a residence in the 200 block of N.E. Orchard.
The man was transported to Lee’s Summit jail after an examination by EMS technicians. He is expected to remain in jail overnight as police continue to investigate the details of the shooting.
According to Depue the suspect and victim, who was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, are familiar with each other but investigators have yet to determine a motive for the shooting around 4 p.m. in the 200 block of N.E. Orchard.
Details of the incident are being sorted Depue said, but as of Sunday night it was not known the relationship between the victim and the shooter.
