Christmas in the Sky Nov. 21
Jackson County Parks and Recreation tonight, Nov. 21 offers a free holiday extravaganza and fireworks kicking-off its 25th annual Christmas in the Park display at Longview Lake.
Tonight begins with musical performances by X Factor constestants Aaron and AJ Young, as well as more than 100 singers and dancers. Gates open at 5 p.m., fireworks at 7:30 p.m. at Longview Lake Beach, two miles south of Interstate 470 on Raytown Road. Performance starts at six, then fireworks at 7:30 p.m.

Fourth Friday Nov. 23
The Giving Tree
A metal sculpture by artist Dave Eames will be dedicated 6:30 p.m. Friday Nov. 23 Friday in the City Hall Plaza, 220 SE Green Street. Residents and visitors can pick up special tags at participating downtown merchants (no cost) and write down wishes, thoughts or hopes. Tags are placed in a box next to the sculpture to be hung by the artist throughout the holiday season. For more information: www.downtownls.org/
Pictures with Santa Dec. 5
The Lee’s Summit Journal invites children to come to its offices 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 5 for pictures with Santa and holiday treats. Please bring a donation of a canned good for Lee’s Summit Social Services. Pictures will be published in the paper Dec. 7.
Cookie Walk Dec. 6
A new event 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 in downtown Lee’s Summit. Visitors go store to store collecting unique, festive cookies and receive a recipe book containing recipies for each cookie offered by participating businesses.
Tickets required, advance sales begin 10 a.m. Nov. 23 at Cameron’s Home Furnishings at 26 SE Third St. and a Thyme for Everything 229B SE Main St. Only 300 tickets are available, for more information: www.downtownls.org.
Farmers Market Holiday Mart Dec. 8
Shop indoors for in-season produce, handmade crafts, baked goods and more at the when the Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmers Market vendors hold their Holiday Mart 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Fire Fighters Union Hall, 322 SE Douglas St., for more information www:downtownls.org/
