Fire damages Greenwood home
Greenwood fire officials are trying to determine the cause of a fire that damaged the bathroom of a Greenwood residence.
Lee’s Summit Fire Department personnel responded to a reported structure fire at 10:59 p.m. Nov. 23 at 104 20th Avenue South in Greenwood.
According to fire officials, the occupant of the house returned home from a walk and heard the smoke alarms sounding from outside. He opened the garage door to find the house filled with smoke, and went to a neighbor’s house to call 911.
When the fire department arrived, no smoke was visible from the outside of a split-level, single family residence.
When firefighters entered the structure they found the lower level filled with smoke and quickly extinguished a fire in a downstairs bathroom. The fire was under control by 11:10 p.m.
Fire damage was contained to the bathroom, with varying amounts of smoke damage to the remainder of the house.
The fire is under investigation by the city of Greenwood.
