LSN takes fourth at tourney

Lee’s Summit North took fourth place with a team score of 293.5 points in their own Lee’s Summit North Invitational held Dec. 7-8.

“Overall the team wrestled well,” Lee’s Summit North head coach Cameron Clover said. “It is the most kids we have had in the top four for a long time. It would have been nice to have more than one wrestler win his last match. We had too many second places.”

The Broncos were behind Cameron in first with a team score of 369.5 points, Park Hill South in second with 299.5 points and Warrensburg in third at 299 points.

Five Bronco wrestlers made it to the championship matches for their respective weight classes. Luke Lepper (120 pounds) won by a 4-1 decision over Park Hill South’s Alex Fortuna to take first place.

Starting at 106 pounds, Austin Hanson took second losing by a 16-0 technical fall to Odessa’s Dakota Miller in the championship match. Ethan Nielsen (113) lost by a 13-6 decision in the championship match to Cameron’s Trevor Buckhart. Keegan McCormick (132) finished second after losing an 3-2 decision to Park Hill South’s Jimmy Carpenter in the first place match. Ian Lindsey (138) lost a 4-3 ultimate tie breaker to Oak Grove’s Bryce Mercer in the championship match.

Tanner Vance (285) finished fourth after losing the third place match by a 1-0 decision to Central’s Matthew Wright. Evan Weidner (160) placed sixth after losing the fifth place match by a 5-3 decision to Central’s Tokawon Kparyea. Tucker Diekmann (220) finished seventh, winning the match by a 6-1 decision over Gardner-Edgerton’s Justin Willard.

Kyle Rampetsreiter (145) took eighth after losing a 7-4 decision to Park Hill South’s Erik Elder. Nick Howerton (170) also took eighth after forfeiting his consolation semifinal and seventh place matches. Clayton Bulloc (126) finished 10th after losing a 12-1 major decision to Rockhurst’s Ryan Loiacomo.

Lee’s Summit placed eighth as a team at the invitational with a score of 202 points. The Tigers top finisher was Trey Broker (120), who took third, winning the match by a 13-7 decision over Cameron’s Justin Gans. Logan Drake (220) placed fourth, losing the third place match by injury default to Nixa’s Ben Melton.

Alan Olivas (126) took fifth place, winning the match by pin over Park Hill South’s Blake Barth in 2:01 minutes. Cartland Allen (132) also took fifth, winning the match by pin over Central’s Tarell Strader in 1:41. Brady Daniels (152) finished fifth with a win by fall over Park Hill South’s Dillion Propes in 4:38. Theodore Propst (195) took fifth with a win by pin over Gardner-Edgerton’s Joel Sterling in 1:32.

Juan Castaneda (160) took seventh with a win by pin over Odessa’s Randy Stevenson in 3:17. Skyler Reid (106) placed eighth, losing the seventh place match by fall to Nixa’s Stanton Finley in 1:51. Coulter Allen (145) finished 11th winning the match by forfeit over Rockhurst’s Alex Reynolds.
