LSN wins double dual

ReprintIt was only their third meet of the season, but the Lee’s Summit North girls’ swim team cruised to an easy double dual victory Dec. 18 at Harrisonville Community Center.
The Broncos defeated Raymore-Peculiar 223-71 and took down Blue Springs South 205-97.
“I believe that we did very well,” Lee’s Summit North head coach Michael Walker said. “Even though a good deal of my girls are battling the flu and they all swam in off events, they delivered their absolute best. I am proud of their hard work and passion for the sport. They always swim above and beyond of what I ask them.”
The Broncos won outright 10 of 11 events and tied for first in the 11th event. Lee’s Summit North also had one athlete qualify for state in two races. Haley Hynes won both the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5 minutes, 24.35 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.19, earning a spot at state.
Kristin Herrick also took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:16.73 and first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.43. Karlee Benefiel finished first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:26.84 and first i n the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :58.88. Alexandra Nutter placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:10.05 and Felicia Bender tied for first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.95 seconds.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Hynes, Benefiel, Bender and Nicole Voss took first with a time of 1:59.95. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Herrick, Regan Riley, Melissa Nixon and Jennifer Gray took first with a time of 1:56.14 and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Bender, Benefiel, Nutter and Hynes finished first with a time of 4:00.54.
