Jean (Hertzog) Alley
Jean (Hertzog) Alley, 82, passed away Dec. 20 at St. Luke’s Hospital East from complications associated with her long battle of multiple medical issues. Her family and friends were by her side when she drifted off to be with the Lord. She was born to Dan & Ruby Hertzog, on Jan. 3, 1930 at Lee’s Summit Hospital. She is a life time resident of the Lee’s Summit Community, and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1948. She continued her education at St. Luke’s Hospital Nursing School, and returned to Lee’s Summit to work as an RN at the Lee’s Summit Clinic for 19 years. In 1975, Jean became a valuable asset for the Lee’s Summit School District, serving as their school nurse for 25 years. During her entire adult life, Jean served the Lord, her family and her community. She was a very special and memorable bible school teacher for over 40 years, touching the lives of so many young Christians. She was also member of Greenwood Baptist Church, then helped start Summit Woods Baptist Church, and lastly became an active member at Abundant Life Baptist Church.
After Jean retired, she became active and an integral member of the Board of Directors for Lee’s Summit East Hospital in Lee’s Summit.
She married the most wonderful and loving husband June 24, 1955, James R. (JR) Alley, and they’ve been married for 57 ½ years. She also leaves behind her two sons, Rick (Marlene) Alley and Tim (Stephanie) Alley, and four grandchildren, Lauren and Hannah Alley, and Sara and Matthew Alley, all from Lee’s Summit. Additionally, she leaves behind her siblings: Robert “Bud” (Betty) Hertzog of Lee’s Summit; James (Sue) Hertzog of Ashflat, Ark.; Jerry (Jane) Hertzog of Greenwood; Don Hertzog of Holden; and Ruth Ann (George) Pirch of Oak Grove, and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, it was Jean’s wish for contributions to either Abundant Life Baptist Church or St. Luke’s Hospital – East Foundation.
Services will be held on Dec. 24, starting with visitation from 10-11:30 a.m. and the funeral at 11:30 a.m. at Abundant Life Baptist Church in Lee’s Summit. Burial will be directly after at Greenwood Cemetery.
