LOU BELLE (JAMES) BUNCH
Lou Belle (James) Bunch departed this life on Dec. 19, 2012 at Wilshire at Lakewood Care Center in Lee’s Summit at the age of 107 years, 3 month and 19 days.
Lou Bell was born Aug. 31, 1905 in Pleasant Hill, MO. She was the daughter of John Riley and Minnie Agnes (Dudley) James. Lou Belle grew up in the Hickory Grove Community near Pleasant Hill and attended Hickory Grove School through 8th grade. She was also a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
On Sept. 22, 1922 Lou Belle was united in marriage with Earnest B. Bunch and to this union four children were born. The Bunch family made their home in the Pleasant Hill/Strasburg area.
Lou Belle was proud of being a “farm wife” and a mother. She did work briefly for the Booth Hatchery in Pleasant Hill, and Hall’s Grocery in Strasburg, Mo.
After the death of her husband, Mr. Earnest Bunch, on Aug. 3, 1995 Lou Belle continued to live in the Pleasant Hill area. In 1997 she moved to Lee’s Summit to be closer to her children and in 2004, with her health declining, Lou Belle moved to Wilshire at Lakewood where she was a resident at the time of her death.
In addition to her husband, Earnest, Lou Belle was preceded in death by her parents, John and Minnie James; one son, Stanley Bunch, one daughter, Margie Handelman; three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by one son, Everett R. Bunch and wife Pat of Lee’s Summit, one daughter, Juanita Buchanan also of Lee’s Summit, grandchildren; Linda Kay Moehle and Steve Bunch both of Lee’s Summit and Harriet Gordon of Overland Park, Kan., five great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral services for Lou Belle Bunch were held on Dec. 21, 2012 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, MO with Pastor Preston Sanders officiating.
