Broncos win tri-meet

ReprintWinning seven out of 12 events was enough for Lee’s Summit North to swim to a solid victory in the tri-meet against Lee’s Summit West and Blue Springs South Jan. 9 at the Lee’s Summit R7 Aquatic Center. Blue Springs South captured victories in the other five events.
The Broncos defeated the Titans 239-137 and took down Blue Springs South 211-167. Blue Springs South beat Lee’s Summit West 234-160.
“The girls swam awesome,” Lee’s Summit North head coach Michael Walker said. “We had many best times, including our state qualifying time for the 200-yard medley relay.”
That relay team of Haley Hynes, Nicole Voss, Felicia Bender and Karlee Benefiel took first place with a time of 1 minute, 57.79 seconds. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Bender, Hynes, Benefiel and Jennifer Gray took first with a time of 1:46.41.
Bender also took first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:21.54 and Voss placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.31. Hynes placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :24.84 and first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.03. Benefiel finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.06.
“We are continuing to work extremely hard for the next week and preparing as best as we can for the Kansas City Classic and conference,” Walker said.
