LARRY GRAY MCBEE

Larry Gray McBee, 70, of Lee’s Summit, died Jan.7, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House after a prolonged battle with cancer.

He was born June 26, 1942 in Monroe, Michigan to Herbert Roosevelt and Nellie (Gray) McBee, the youngest of their seven children. He married Marilyn Jean Krueger on May 1, 1965 and she survives.

Larry grew up in Michigan, graduating from Monroe High School, and loved his home state. He made his home in Michigan, Fla., and later, in Missouri and made good friends everywhere he went. Genealogy captured his interest and he thoroughly enjoyed exploring his family’s ancestry. Never shy about giving advice, Larry was always ready with an anecdote, a joke or a story.

He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, was a deputy sheriff, and had a career with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. In his later years he enjoyed working at Research Medical Center and spending countless hours volunteering at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

Larry was proud of his son and daughter and their families. His greatest loves, besides his wife, Marilyn, were his grandsons who he adored. He delighted in sharing his love of reading with them, watching them play ball and telling everyone he knew about their latest exploits.

Larry is also survived by his daughter, Kim (William) Foster and grandsons Merrick William and John Gray of Overland Park, Kan.; son, Aaron (Angelique) McBee and grandsons Sean Gray and Connor Gray of Yuma, Arizona; sisters, Audrey Henry of Tony, Alabama and Oma Bentley of Monroe, Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry’s memorial celebration will be held on Jan. 18, 2013 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 700 NE Chipman Road, Lee’s Summit, MO, 64063. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with a service at 11 a.m. and luncheon immediately following.

Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Seminary (Student Aid Fund), 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, MO, 63105-3196 or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, 9221 Ward Parkway, #101, Kansas City, MO, 64114.

(Arrangements: Cremation Center of Kansas City, 4926 Johnson Drive, Shawnee Mission, KS, 66205, 913-384-5566.)
