REGINA CLAIRE “GENIE” (WALLACE) WEIGHT
Regina Claire (Wallace) Weight passed from this life on Jan. 7, 2013. She had been in poor health for some time before her death.
Genie was born Aug. 27, 1927 in the Edgemont Hospital, Fall River County, South Dakota to Claire Regina Mastrude and Bedford Freeman Wallace. She lived in Edgemont and Deadwood until 1942 when the family moved to Ravenna, Buffalo County, Neb. It was there that Genie finished high school in 1945 and enrolled in Nebraska Wesleyan University at Lincoln, graduating in 1949 with majors in Music and English. After graduation Genie taught music in Kansas and California public schools. She also served as Choir Director for the Napa Valley, Cali., First Baptist Church. In addition, Genie taught private piano lessons for over forty years.
On June 18, 1953 at Ravenna, Genie married Wilbur John Wright. They moved to California where “John” was employed at Vallejo. Genie worked hard to help put “hubby” through college. To that union were born 4 children; Timothy Jon Weight, (Pat), Georgetown, Texas, Lori Jean Weight, (Bret), Blue Springs, Rebecca Sue Groenwald, (Kevin), Lime Springs, Iowa and Gregory Lee Weight, (Judy), Liberty.
Genie was a member of United Methodist Women, Martha Circle. She helped form GFWC Green-Lee Study Club, Lee’s Summit, in 1974. She served as President a number of times and remained active in that organization until her death. She was also very active as a leader in Girl Scouts of America and helped her daughters achieve the coveted award of First Class Scout.
Genie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Genie is survived by her husband of the home, her children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held noon, Jan. 11, 2013 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 Main Street, Blue Springs, with the Rev. Lee Soxman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
