MARVEL BRAUN
Marvel Braun, age 101, of Butler, Missouri, died Jan. 6, 2013 at Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler.
She was born Apr. 10, 1911 to Perry and Dorla Miller Alderson in Pond Creek, Okla.
Marvel, one of four children, graduated from high school in New Orleans, La. In 1931 she was united in marriage to Logan Braun and to this union a daughter was born. For many years, Marvel raced greyhounds. She also worked as a teller at the Bank of Lee’s Summit. In 1998 she moved to Butler.
Marvel enjoyed sewing…and even sewed clothes for her grandchildren and made a coat for her daughter. She was active in her Church Circle and served as Treasurer for the Lee’s Summit Christian Church. Marvel loved visiting with her family. She was artistic and had many beautiful art pieces, including several family scrapbooks that she created but lost all of her personal belongings in a tragic farmhouse fire.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Logan Braun in 1987; one brother, Ga. Alderson and one sister, Helen Hall.
Marvel is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Simonin of Butler; one brother, Ed Alderson and wife Eleanor of St. Petersburg, Fla; two grandsons, Terry Simonin and wife Myda of Lee’s Summit, and Tom Simonin and wife Bridget of Butler; eight great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Jan. 11, 2013 at Lee’s Summit Cemetery with Dr. Tom Haley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Butler First Christian Church are requested.
