Summit Christian Academy student places in VFW speech competition
Summit Christian Academy junior Ashley Thompson of Lee’s Summit took second place in the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ The Voice of Democracy district speech competition. The subject of this year's speech was, Is Our Constitution Still Relevant? Students were judged on the content, delivery, and originality of their speech.
Three SCA representatives were selected by Speech and Debate Teacher Anne Mussati to compete at the Lee’s Summit VFW District Competition. Junior Jackson Redford and Senior Stephen Herrera both took 4th place in the competition.
“All three of these students are gifted writers and speakers and had very interesting points regarding our constitution,” commented Secondary Principal Emir A. Ruiz Esparza. “Their success can be attributed to their experience in the Speech & Debate program and the overall SCA environment that provides students opportunities to speak publicly from as early as Pre-Kindergarten.”
