Victor Alan Godwin, 77, died peacefully at home Jan. 20, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Alan was born June 16, 1935 in Shawnee, Okla. to Victor and Ethel Godwin. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1953. After attending Oklahoma State, Alan moved to Kansas City where he met his lifelong love, Ruth Ann Weston. They enjoyed 55 wonderfully blessed years of marriage. During that time they made many treasured friendships in their neighborhood, travels and at work. Alan served in the U.S. Army and retired from Lucent Technologies after 30 years. His hobbies included his family, fishing, camping gardening and helping others.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Lowrey. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, daughters; Cathy Lohr and husband Gary and Donna Nill and husband Mike, five grandchildren; Greg Lohr, Crystal Lohr, Allison Nill, Amelia Nill and Elise Nill. Alan was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Jan. 26, 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 2 NE Douglas St, Lee’s Summit, MO with services to follow at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Village Hospice, 1001 Chipman Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO, 64081.
