BETTY MAE McCAIN
Betty Mae (Decker) McCain, 84, died Jan.19, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Lee’s Summit.
Born April 5, 1928 in Licking, Mo., Betty was the youngest of 12 children born to Alfred and Iva Decker. Betty grew up in Lee’s Summit, attending Hazel Grove Elementary and Lee’s Summit High School. On Apr. 20, 1947 she married Loyde L. McCain. They eventually moved to Independence, where they raised their three daughters. Betty was employed at Dolly Madison Bakery, Kansas City, Lake City Arsenal, Wilcox Electric and at her husband’s business, Broadway Shoe Repair in Waldo. She retired from Honeywell in 1992. Betty moved to Lee’s Summit after losing her husband in 1993 so she could be closer to her daughters.
Betty loved being with people. She was always on the go and welcomed friends and the friends of her children and grandchildren into her home at any time, and made sure they were fed and comfortable. She enjoyed movies and good food and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She was described as the kindest and most gracious person and was a devoted friend. She was up for anything as long as she was surrounded by family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyde McCain, her grandson, Michael Pyszka and nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her three daughters; Sondra Underwood (Ron), Deborah Pzska (Bob) and Shelly McCain, all of Lee’s Summit, her brother, Percy Decker (Virginia), her sister Mary Ensworth (Melvin J. Jr.), four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and beloved nieces and nephews.
