J.C. “COACH” DAVIS, JR.
J.C. Davis, 81, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Jan. 25, 2013 at Research Medical Center.
Coach Davis was born Jan. 13, 1932 in Johnson Station, Mississippi to Jewell Carl and Arcille Green Davis. Coach went to High School in Johnston Station, Miss. and Junior college in SW Mississippi. He received his Masters Degree at Pittsburg State. Coach worked for the R-7 School District for 26 years as a teacher and coach retiring in 1987. He also taught for Pilot Grove Missouri for 3 years and Schell City, Mo. for one year. Coach was the first certified High School athletic trainer in the State of Missouri. Coach served in the Korean War from 1951-1954 in the Coast Guard. He was a member of the Lee’s Summit Noon Rotary Club.
Survivors include his son Jaye Davis, of Lee’s Summit, son Phillip Davis and wife Melina of St. Louis, two grandsons; Clay and Brett, two sisters; Barbara Thornton and Betty Osborne, two sister-in-laws; Elaine Davis and Martha Compton and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Feb. 1, at Langsford Funeral Home.Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
