Summit Christian Academy student Texas bound again

Summit Christian Academy students competed Jan. 23 against 14 area schools in the Association of Christian Schools International third to eighth grade district Spelling Bee. Capturing second place out of 97 spellers was SCA sixth-grade student Matthew Mitchell.

Mitchell will travel to Dallas, Tex. to compete in the March 9 ACSI Regional Spelling Bee against students from seven other states. This is Mitchell’s second trip to the regional Spelling Bee in Dallas, as he took fourth-place at the district competition last year.

The following seven SCA students placed in their grade level competitions and advanced to the finals round at the district Spelling Bee hosted by Harrisonville Christian School:

• 8th grade – Annalise Park, second place

• 7th grade – Jacob Dixson, second place and Russell Cook, fourth place

• 6th grade – Matthew Mitchell third place and Paige Thompson, fourth place

• 3rd grade – Jacob Martinez, first place and Kyler Simmons, second place.
