DONALD H. BELDEN
Donald H. Belden of John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit died on Feb. 2, 2013.
He was born Feb. 16, 1917 to Clements and Louise Germer Belden. Don lived most of his boyhood and early life in Detroit and Royal Oak, Mi. He graduated from the University of Michigan with B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering and spent his entire business career with Universal Oil Products Company of Chicago (now part of Honeywell) in research and development activities that involved assignments to other parts of the world.
The Beldens retired in 1980 to Rogers, Ark. and were there for 12 years before coming to John Knox Village. While in Rogers he served two terms on the Quorun Court of Benton County (equivalent to the county commission), and was active in environmental affairs as it affected the Beaver Lake area. After coming to John Knox Village, he took an active role in matters pertaining to the Village, being on and chairing numerous committees of the Resident Council.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hazel and his son Larry J. Belden.
He is survived by five children; Lynne B. Shaw (James) of Bartlesville, Okla., Diane B. Hogan (Thomas) of Bella Vista, Ark., Lori R. Holland of Flower Mound, Texas , Barry D. Caponi (Nancy) of Double Oak, Texas and Debra C. Newman (Scott) of Lakeville, Mn. He has 13 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church at Second and Douglas Streets on Feb. 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Service will follow at 11 a.m.
Mr. Belden was a member of the Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church. The family requests that memorials in his name be sent to the church.
