Margaret Jane Taylor, 58, of Greenwood, departed this life on Jan. 28, 2013 at the Lee’s Summit Medical Center after a courageous battle against cancer.
She was born on Dec. 23, 1954 in Harrisonville, the daughter of Vernon and Roberta Kauffman.
On July 25, 1975 she was united in marriage to William Ernest Taylor in Lee’s Summit and moved to Greenwood in 1978.
Janie began a career in the LS School District in 1989 at Greenwood Elementary. She first served as a playground aide before becoming the principle’s secretary. Janie later transferred to Trailridge Elementary and then to the district office as a Human Resources Manager. Janie was known throughout the district and community as a kind and compassionate person who was always willing to listen and help others.
Janie’s passions included celebrating special occasions with her family, cooking, canning and shopping.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Ernest Kauffman Taylor.
She is survived by her husband Ernie; three children, Stacy (Rob) Paszkiewicz of Lee’s Summit, Rody (Sara) Taylor of Pleasant Hill, and Billy Taylor of Pleasant Hill; sister, Gina Hughes of Lee’s Summit; brother Larry Kauffman of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; four grandchildren, McKulla, Maris, MariAlice and Mitchell; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Feb. 1, 2013 at the Dickey Funeral Home in Harrisonville, with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation, Stansberry Leadership Center, 301 NE Tudor Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO, 64086.
