Your opinion
Keep your opinion to yourself
Dear editor,
I take exception to the editor’s most recent column in “It’s News To Me.”
My overall view is that unless you have been a member of a City Council or one of the Commissions that contribute time, money or effort for the good of us all, you should probably reserve your rather harsh judgment for something in which you hold some expertise, like being a new father or running newspapers.
We all should be respectful of any of our citizens who aspire for public office and not engage in the “low ball” game of name calling, especially from an “editor.”
I speak as a citizen who sat on the Planning Commission, the Cemetery Board, the Landfill Committee, the School Site Committee and the Twenty-First Century Committee to name a few.
With few exceptions our interface with the City staff was both respectful and professional at all levels.
Did we agree on everything? No.
Were the meetings at times boring? Yes.
But through it all, I along with my fellow members, understood, at some level, that this process is what makes our system of government the envy of the world.
