Jackson County residents have until March 1 to file personal property tax declarations for 2013.

The county is mailing Personal Property Declaration forms to citizens. In accordance with Missouri State Statute, all individual and business personal property owners must report all taxable personal property owned or controlled on January 1 to their county Assessment Department.

The due date for declarations to the Jackson County Assessment Department is March 1.

Declaration forms can be mailed in or completed on-line at the Jackson County website, www.jacksongov.org.

The Jackson County Assessment Department encourages citizens to carefully review their declaration forms for any changes or corrections to be made, including the owner’s Jackson County street address listed for the property. That street address determines where tax dollars are distributed.

Citizens who have questions regarding their personal property declarations can contact the Jackson County Assessment Department Taxpayer Assistance Division at 816-881-1330.

Citizens can also email questions to assessment@jacksongov.org.

Those not returning a completed list of personal property to the Jackson County Assessment Department by the March 1 due date may be subject to a late filing penalty.
