Harold Joseph Braden, 91, of Lee’s Summit, passed away peacefully at John Knox Care Center on Feb. 26, 2013 during a snow storm, just as he entered the world on March 29, 1921.
Harold was the son of Robert Cornelius and Mary Beatrice Braden of Utica, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He went on to graduate from Chillicothe Business College. On Aug. 25, 1956 he married Lucille Stokes of Jefferson City and the two have resided in Lee’s Summit since 1963. He was a member of Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church for 50 years, Knights of Columbus and the VFW. Harold had a successful career in Claims Management and retired from Yellow Freight after working there 26 years.
During his retirement his hobbies included reading, researching genealogy, watching sporting events, playing cards and fishing. Harold always enjoyed visiting with family and friends whether at the dinner table, the lake, attending his grandchildren’s activities or going to breakfast with his WWII buddies. In 2010 he wrote and published his account of the war, “World War II – Through the Eyes of a 20 Year Old.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; John and Edward Braden. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucille, one daughter; Melissa Frerking and her husband Brett, one son, Joe Braden and four grandchildren; Tyler, Caleb, Jaime and Meghan. He is also survived by two sisters; Cornelia Dietrich of Teaneck, New Jersey and Mary Lightner of Chillicothe, Missouri, along with several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., March 1 at Langsford Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:45 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., March 2 at Our Lady of the Presentation Church, 130 NW Murray Road, Lee’s Summit.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to First Hand Foundation, 2800 Rockcreek Parkway, Kansas City, MO., 64117.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Lee’s Summit Medical Center and John Knox Care Center for their care and support of Harold.
