JOHN W. KLAUS III
John W. Klaus III, 51, of Lee’s Summit, passed away peacefully, Feb. 24, 2013, surrounded by family and friends, at Kansas City Hospice House, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
John was born May 29, 1961, in Kansas City, to John and Shirley Klaus. He attended Greenwood Elementary School, Lee’s Summit Junior High, and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1979. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where he studied Horticulture and was a member of both Marching Mizzou and Mini Mizzou. He was a third generation wholesale florist, working in the family business, John Klaus & Sons Greenhouses, Inc. He was a gifted floral designer, computer repair person, and worked on lots of elaborate construction, electrical and plumbing projects through the years. Most recently, he worked as a wholesale florist at Florists’ Distributing, Inc., a subsidiary of HyVee. He was a member of the Missouri State Florist’s Association and Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Walter C. and Elizabeth Hoffman, paternal grandparents, John and Wally Klaus, an uncle, aunt and cousin, George, Louise and Fred Rhodes, and aunt, Barbara Klaus.
He is survived by two sons, Justin and Michael Boyd, father and mother, John W. and Shirley Klaus, sister, Suzanne Klaus, uncle, Bernard A. Klaus and many cousins.
He will be deeply missed and will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those that knew him.
Cremation is planned, with a private memorial service to be held at a later date. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 2-4 p.m., March 2, 2013, at Langsford Funeral Home.
