Create your own new normal

We have become a society that craves immediate gratification and it doesn’t seem normal to actually work for something we want. Sometimes I hear people say they can’t afford to work out or eat right. Sometimes this excuse is valid. Most of the time, it isn’t.
In the past, we were naturally thinner and healthier because we naturally ate fewer calories. There wasn’t any refined sugar or high fructose corn syrup that had us eating excessive calories without feeling full from those calories. In the old normal, the environment was more natural. This means there weren’t any man-made chemicals in our food that interfered with our body’s normal way to burn energy and no trans-fats that literally disrupt fat loss.
It is essential that we all know what our priorities are and make a plan to live by them. Everything else that’s non-essential is just that – non-essential. Many people will pay thousands of dollars to keep from feeling insignificant. They try to gain self-worth through material possessions instead of earning that self-worth through actions and integrity.
None of us gain self-worth by taking the easy way that leaves us feeling empty, but by taking the road that leads to a larger purpose. The larger purpose should be a goal that we have chosen based on our own priorities, not someone else’s. I guess we could call this the road less traveled.
The road that leads to a larger purpose typically isn’t the easier one but at the end of the day, you know you took responsibility and earned the results of your life. Although life has a way of occasionally beating all of us down, you know that you can take hold of one or two areas of it and reach your goals. The expression “you get out of this life what you put in” is so true.
The best way to gain self-worth is by doing the work with a larger purpose or goal, in mind. You’re busy creating something that is important to you. You separate yourself from the crowd and know that you’re doing something that takes hard work, some effort, and some thinking. You feel different about exercise and eating right.
In the end, you really are taking steps to shape your new normal and you should be proud!
