MERRILL ALLEN WRIGHT

Mel Wright, age 84, of Lee’s Summit, passed away on March 2, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.

Mel was born on May 7, 1928 and raised in Topeka, Kan. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and served honorably for 2 years. Mel was united in marriage to Betty L. Mason Wright on May 27, 1949. During their 63 years of marriage, he owned and operated Wright Way TV in Lee’s Summit for 45 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, member of the Masonic Lodge and past Master of Summit Lodge No. 263 AF & AM, member and past Patron of Eastern Star Chapter 101, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of American Legion and the Scottish Rite of Kansas City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty L. Wright, his children, David Wright of Houston, Texas and Denise Porter and Diane Torrence of Lee’s Summit, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral will be held at Langsford Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on March 7, 2013 with burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
