Summit Lakes Middle School celebrated Lee’s Summit Reading Week Feb. 25 through March 1 with a number of special reading activities and a book drive for charity. Theme for the week was “Real Heroes Foster Reading,” and students and staff were invited to donate books to Southwest Boulevard Family Health Care as part of this theme.

By March 1, SLMS students and employees had donated more than 1,750 books to the nonprofit clinic, which serves the poorest areas in Kansas City. Many of the books donated will be used to start a library for patients at the center.
