JAY (JOHN KENNETH, JR.) HIGDON
Jay Higdon, Lee’s Summit, passed away March 17, 2013 at Baylor Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, while on a business trip.
Jay was born December 2, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas. He moved to the Kansas City area in 1956, graduating from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1967. Jay was named “Outstanding Freshman” by the faculty of the University of Kansas School of Fine Arts in 1974.
Jay dedicated his working years to graphic arts, becoming an expert in printing, graphic design, and design, in general. His life goal was to become a designer, and he pursued that goal with single-minded determination. His company, XOdesign, was well regarded and had a number of notable clients. Jay was gifted with exceptional powers of observation and a quick and curious mind. He had the ability to grasp concepts quickly and put them into simple terms. Coupled with his creativity and artistic ability, this made him a talented designer.
Jay is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley E. Higdon and his sister, Sherin Higdon Custer.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jill; his daughter, Jayne Higdon Dreyer and her husband Kelly; his father, J. Kenneth Higdon and stepmother; Mary; brother Don Higdon and his wife Sarah; sister Barbara Higdon; brother-in-law Rob Custer and his wife Beth; and step sister Liz Smart Hinton and her husband Curtis. He is also survived by a niece and nephew.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013 at The Silent Unity Chapel, 1901 NW Blue Pkwy, Unity Village, Mo.

His impressive mind, remarkable creativity and fun loving disposition will be missed by all who knew him.
