April 8, 2013

The Lee’s Summit Police Department is seeking information from the public on the whereabouts of 37-year-old Shannon L. Walz of Kansas City.

Jackson County Prosecutors charged Walz March 28 with one count of first-degree burglary in relation to a residential burglary in Lee’s Summit March 5.

According to the Lee’s Summit Police Department, just after midnight March 5 officers were called to an apartment complex located in the 600 block of S.E. Missouri 291. The victim told police that he was awakened by his dog barking and after retrieving a handgun he observed a male standing in his bedroom doorway holding a weapon.

The victim stated that he fired two shots at the suspect who fled from the apartment.

During the course of the investigation, information was obtained that the suspect was seeking treatment at a hospital in Kansas City. Detectives with the Lee’s Summit Police Department responded to the hospital and interviewed the man who said he was robbed while in Kansas City.

A bullet was recovered from the man’s shoulder and after a laboratory examination the bullet was matched back to the burglary victim’s handgun.

Walz is described as 6-foot-tall and 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Walz is considered dangerous and if located, call 911 but do not approach the suspect.

Other numbers to call include the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS or the LSPD at 816-969-1752.
