The three Lee’s Summit Rotary Club’s in partnership with Unity, and five other sponsoring Rotary Clubs, will hold a Peace Forum 7 a.m.-3 p.m., April 20, 2013 at Unity Village. The Peace Forum will feature internationally acclaimed authors and speakers, a Rotary Peace Institute Scholar, and many more activities including: a welcoming reception the evening prior and a closing reception with musical performances by talented musicians including the LSUMC Methodist Men of Note. Breakfast, breaks, a “themed” luncheon and the two receptions are all included in the registration fee.
This Rotary peace forum at Unity Village, called “Peace Thru Service,” is a one day event. The event starts at 7 a.m. with a breakfast and opening ceremony. There will be time for one on one conversation with the speakers as well. This form is open to the general public.
This “Peace Thru Service” form is an excellent example of an international peace event according to Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary Club President, Chad Waldo, “It’s pretty cool to see so many of these events going on all around the world. Our local event is small in comparison to some of the other two and three day events going on, however the impact is still huge. These “peace” events will be going on in the next few months in Lee’s Summit, Chicago, New York, London, Prague and New Delhi. Now, you too can be part of “making peace.”
Area Girl Scouts are particularly invited to the Peace Forum which will feature an additional event just for them. Girl Scouts are invited to come view a 10:30 a.m. showing of “Odd Girl Out.” This anti-bullying video is rated PG-13 and is intended for Junior Girl Scouts and above.
The movie is free to attend with a parent. To sign up for the movie, Girl Scout parents must email Rotary directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include full name, their child’s name, age and troop number in the e-mail. Registration via e-mail is only for the video, not the forum.Cost is $50 per person and includes breakfast and lunch. A student discount is available for a cost of $25 per student. Breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee.
