Lake Lotawana Optimist Club benefits Mason Elementary

April 17, 2013

Mason Elementary School students recently created a video to thank the Lake Lotawana Optimist Club. The local Optimist Club has a long-standing tradition of helping Mason students and staff through a variety of efforts.

The Lake Lotawana Optimist Club promotes character at the school through the Good Character Award and Student of the Month Award.

In addition, the Optimist Club helps with the school’s lunch fund which allows students to have a full lunch each day regardless of lunch charges, supports reading and math programs and provides incentives for success. The Optimist Club members serve as student mentors through the school’s lunch buddy program and assist with special classes and projects throughout the school. They also sponsor the Orations Contest each year and currently sixth-grader Jack Gatti is headed to the state competition after winning the regional competition.

Club members also helped provide the school with two iPads that are used for student instruction and are assisting with the Mason summer learning bags, which are filled with items that will encourage students to keep working over the summer months.
