Local insurance agent Donald Dickey lobbies Congress

April 19, 2013

Donald Dickey of Lee’s Summit joined 1,000 other insurance professionals from across the country in Washington, D.C. to meet with U.S. Senate and U.S. House members and staff.

He was attending the April 8-9 National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors’s Congressional Conference.

Dickey, a local agent and financial services provider, is a member.

“I was in a delegation that met with Roy Blunt and staffer Jamie Hollenberg as well as staffers Mary Petrovic and Jennifer Shapiro in Emanuel Cleaver’s office,” Dickey said. “It's so important to make these contacts on Capitol Hill. We shared with our Representatives and Senators the importance of the insurance and financial services we provide to our clients, their families, our communities and to our nation’s economy. I was encouraged to find our positions on important tax issues to be well received.”

Conference attendees talked to their members of Congress about the importance of life insurance, annuities and employee benefits to their clients and the U.S. economy. Life insurance products account for 20 percent of Americans’ long-term savings. The life insurance industry pays out $1.5 billion each day in benefits and supports 2.5 million jobs.
