April 24, 2013

Several Lee’s Summit R-7 School District sophomores were recently selected to attend the Missouri Scholars Academy, a three-week academic program for approximately 330 of Missouri’s gifted students.

Students selected to attend this Academy are Sydne Anschutz and Christopher Mitchell, Lee’s Summit High School; Zach Hitchcock, Andrew Long and Lana Tuong, Lee’s Summit North High School; and John Ruess, Allison Tsay and Ethan Payne, Lee’s Summit West High School.

Close to 330 sophomores statewide are selected from among approximately 65,000 students.

The Scholars Academy is held annually on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia during the summer. Funding for the program comes from the University of Missouri, the Gifted Association of Missouri and the Missouri Scholars Academy Alumni Association. It is administered by the University of Missouri.

The Academy features carefully selected faculty and staff, a specially designed curriculum that focuses on the liberal arts and a variety of stimulating extracurricular activities. Academy students are able to become part of a unique learning community.
