She was one of the original “Lotawana Lake Rats”. Helen married her husband, La Monte C Brown, on December 4, 1937. They had two sons; Gary Franklin and Randal Wesley. They served churches across the state of Iowa including congregations in Logan, Greenfield, Clearfield and Eddyville. Helen retired from the conference in 1984, and at that time they returned to Lake Lotawana. After La Monte’s death in 1987, she continued to live at the Lake until 2008, when she moved to an independent living apartment at John Knox. She served as Pastor Emeritus at Lake Lotawana Community United Methodist Church until her death.
Helen was a graduate of Barstow School, Kansas City and Garrett Seminary, Evanston, Illinois. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, National Conference of Clergy Women, and the Lake Lotawana Community Club.
